Customs seizes 12 trucks of smuggled rice from Benin Republic

The Nigeria Customs Service has seized a dozen trucks loaded with parboiled rice that were being smuggled into the country from Benin Republic. The announcement was made on Tuesday, August 9th by the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone A, Ikeja. Mr. Hussein Ejibunu, the Acting Area Controller of the anti-smuggling unit of the service, revealed that the Duty Paid Value (DPV) of the contraband was N537.5 million. Additionally, NCS officials collected N24.5 million in revenue through thorough checks on import documents, and issued demand notices to importers and agents who had underpaid their duties. The seized items also included 34,725 liters of petrol, 39 bales of used clothes, and 225 used tires, among other things.
