Customs seize 2,290 used tires in Oyo State

2,290 used tires were intercepted by the Nigeria Customs Service, Oyo/Osun Area Command, along the Saki Axis in Oyo State.

Dr. Ben Oramalugo, the Customs Area Controller in charge of the command, revealed this information in a statement released on Wednesday.

The contraband tires, concealed in DAF trucks, were discovered during an operation on Monday to prevent prohibited items from being smuggled into the country, thus safeguarding public safety and the Nigerian economy’s integrity, as stated by Oramalugo.

During a routine stop-and-search operation, the used tires were found hidden in a DAF truck in an attempt to avoid detection by law enforcement officers, according to Oramalugo.

Oramalugo emphasized that importing and smuggling used tires into the country is illegal and poses a significant safety risk to the public due to their worn-out condition.

The Oyo/Osun Customs chief stressed the importance of the command’s ongoing surveillance and intelligence-gathering efforts following the successful seizure of the tires.

He praised the vigilance and dedication of the command’s officers in preventing the smuggling of substandard and prohibited goods into Nigeria.

Oramalugo reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring that only legitimate goods are allowed entry into the country, promising to intensify operations against smuggling activities on all fronts.

Warning smugglers and individuals engaged in illegal trade, Oramalugo stated that the command would relentlessly pursue offenders to justice and safeguard the nation’s borders.

The CAC reaffirmed the command’s dedication to protecting the public from the hazards of substandard/smuggled goods and pledged continued collaboration with security agencies and stakeholders to enforce customs regulations effectively.
