Update: Kano Eases Curfew as Protests Subside

The State Government of Kano has decided to relax the curfew hours following a decrease in protests in the area. Initially imposed from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm due to post-protest violence, the curfew has now been adjusted.

As the protests entered their sixth day, areas in Kano reported a reduction in protest activities. The decision to reduce the curfew was made public by the Commissioner of Police, CP Salma Dogo, after a State Security Council meeting chaired by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf at the Government House, Kano.

CP Dogo stated, “The adjustment of the curfew hours comes as normalcy has been reinstated in most parts of the city. Governor Yusuf, following extensive discussions with the State Security Council, approved the reduction of the curfew period.”

He added, “Residents are encouraged to collaborate with deployed security personnel within and outside the city as peace is gradually being restored within the state.”

Emphasizing the presence of security forces in the city to maintain law and order, CP Dogo continued, “Governor Yusuf has advised residents to return to their homes by 6 p.m., with assurances that the curfew will be reevaluated as the security situation improves.”
