Tragic Incident in Bayelsa: Cultists Claim a Life

In Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa state, a disturbing event unfolded at the Slaughter area of the Swali Ultra Modern Market. Cultists struck, leading to the tragic death of a young individual whose identity is yet to be disclosed.

According to an eyewitness, the cultists had targeted the victim’s younger sibling. Tragically, during the confrontation, the victim shielded his brother and ended up being shot instead.

Describing the harrowing incident, the witness stated, “He and his younger brother were present when the assailants showed up, inquiring about the younger sibling. However, he bravely moved to protect his brother by saying, ‘Not this one,’ and shielding him. This act of bravery cost him his life as he was shot in the chest.”

Upon witnessing the violence, panic ensued, prompting people to flee while calls were made to the police for intervention. Law enforcement arrived promptly to attend to the tragic situation, removing the victim’s body from the scene.

At present, the specific cult group responsible for the attack remains unidentified.

Despite efforts to reach out, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Musa Mohammed, has not yet provided any official statements on the matter, despite being contacted via calls and text messages.

It is worth noting that the Slaughter area has been a known hotspot for cult-related activities, with traders and customers frequently falling victim to the terrorizing acts of such groups.
