Criticism from Uche Jombo and Alesh Sanni at Mohbad’s Candlelight Vigil

During the candlelight vigil for the late future singer Mohbad at Lekki Toll Gate, Nollywood stars Uche Jombo and Alesh Sanni criticized the victims of Lekki teargas.

The event, attended by various celebrities, ended with some people forming a protest, prompting authorities to disperse the crowd with tear gas.

Uche Jombo reprimanded those who remained at the Toll Gate after the vigil, questioning their refusal to comply with the request to disperse.

She urged Nigerians to act better, expressing confusion about why sympathizers headed to the Toll Gate despite the instructions.

“The candlelight vigil for Mohbad ended at 8 pm and some people went to the toll gate, why? I saw the tear gas video and thought it was at the vigil. It happened afterwards. Sometimes, as a people, we can overdo things.”

Similarly, Alesh also remarked on how the crowd was asked to go home since the protest was canceled, stating that Nigerians tend to do too much at times.

He wrote:

“You guys missed the point of this whole thing!! This is a Candle Night and not a Protest!! The initial walk that was supposed to replace the Protest was canceled just because of something like this… This is candle night and not protest!! I said it, we do too much, why please.”

Hours earlier, the Lagos Police Command had explained their use of tear gas to disperse mourners at the candlelight vigil for Mohbad. The PRO of the Lagos Police, Benjamin Hundeyin, claimed they took the action to avoid traffic and chaos.
