Cristiano Ronaldo sets new international scoring record with 110th and 111th goals for Portugal

After scoring his 110th and 111th international goals for Portugal in a remarkable comeback victory, Cristiano Ronaldo has surpassed Ali Daei’s 15-year record as the highest international goalscorer.

Ronaldo’s 89th-minute goal during Portugal’s 2-1 win in their World Cup qualifying match on Wednesday saw him reach 110 goals in 180 appearances for his country, breaking Ali Daei’s record of 109 goals for Iran.

Despite missing a penalty earlier in the game, the 36-year-old celebrated wildly as he secured his place in football history.

Ronaldo, who won the golden boot at the Euros with six goals, now holds a significant lead over the next-highest active men’s player behind Daei, Ali Mabkhout, who has 76 goals in 92 appearances for the UAE.

Daei had previously set the record with 109 goals for Iran between 1993 and 2006.

Following his international success, Ronaldo is set to make his debut for Manchester United under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after 12 years away from the club.
