COVID19 is another Boko Haram, it is real- Borno deputy governor warns state residents as 16 health workers test positive for the virus

The Borno Deputy Governor, Umar Usman Kadafur, has cautioned the state residents about their skepticism regarding the existence of Coronavirus, likening it to the initial dismissal of Boko Haram activities. He made these remarks during a press briefing in Maiduguri, where he serves as the chairman of the state’s response team for the prevention and control of COVID-19 pandemic.

Kadafur expressed concern over the lack of belief in the virus’s existence despite its rapid spread and lamented the disregard for social distancing rules, especially during burial ceremonies and congregational prayers. He emphasized the urgency of acknowledging the reality of COVID-19, drawing parallels to the initial attitude towards the Boko Haram crisis, emphasizing the need for continued advocacy to raise awareness.

Meanwhile, Dr. Salisu Kwayabura, the state Commissioner of Health, disclosed that 16 healthcare workers had tested positive for the virus within the last 48 hours. He urged residents to adhere to the NCDC guidelines for handwashing, personal hygiene, and social distancing, underlining the importance of wearing face masks when venturing outside and maintaining proper hand hygiene.

Borno state currently has a total of 75 confirmed cases of COVID-19.
