COVID19: Crackdown on Sex Workers and Clients in Ondo for Violating Lockdown Directive

A total of 18 commercial sex workers have been apprehended in Ondo State for defying the state government’s lockdown measures aimed at curbing the spread of Coronavirus in the region.

Doyin Odebowale, the Chairman of the Special Task Force on COVID-19 Enforcement and Compliance in the state, verified the incident to the media, revealing that the sex workers, along with five of their clients, were nabbed at a brothel in Shasha, an area located in Akure, the capital city.

Odebowale disclosed that the sex workers have been put in quarantine, with their blood samples collected for testing to determine their health status.

“They have been together and they are in a high rise situation, so we have to invite our health expert through the state epidemiologist to ascertain their health status,” he stated.

Dr. Steven Fagbemi, the Ondo State epidemiologist, also confirmed that health officials had taken blood samples from the arrested sex workers for testing.
