Court restrains APC from conducting primaries in Edo

A Federal High Court in Benin City, Edo state, has granted an order on Monday, June 8, restraining the All Progressives Congress and its national chairman from conducting any primary election in Edo State. The crisis in the Edo state chapter of the All Progressives Congress has taken a different turn.

The order was granted ahead of the governorship election in September, pending the determination of the lawsuit on June 11, 2020.

Six aspirants from two camps are in the race for the Edo APC governorship ticket. Among them are former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Osagie Ize-Iyamu, and a former Deputy Governor of the state, Dr. Pius Odubu. Five of the aspirants belong to a faction of the party loyal to APC National Chairman Mr. Adams Oshiomhole, who are seeking to unseat Governor Godwin Obaseki, while the governor himself is the sole aspirant from his faction of the party.

Credentials of Governor Godwin Obaseki and the five other aspirants, who have bought, completed, and submitted the party’s expression of interest and nomination forms, have been displayed at both the National Secretariat of the party in Abuja and the Edo State chapter office in Benin.
