Court Sentences Man to 2 Years in Prison for Trying to Evade Arrest

A 45-year-old man named Sani Salihu has been sentenced to a two-year jail term by a Yola magistrate court. He was found guilty of trying to escape arrest after allegedly engaging in sodomy with a 14-year-old boy.

While being taken to Yolde Pate Correctional Centre following his arraignment in court, the suspect made an attempt to flee.

Salihu admitted to having sexual intercourse with the victim through the anus as part of a ritual.

The defendant, who was brought before the court for “unnatural offense” as stated in section 263 of the penal code, pleaded not guilty to the crime.

The prosecuting police officer identified as Inspector Zakka accused the suspect, who is said to be a businessman, of committing the act.

The court was informed that the victim’s father, a resident of Modire ward in Yolde Pate, reported the incident to the police station on June 27, 2023.

The father, whose name is being withheld, reported that the defendant lured his son into a nearby bush, threatened him with a pair of scissors, and sexually abused him.
