Court extends order for Giadom to act as APC chairman

The order for Victor Giadom to act as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been extended for the next two weeks by a Federal High Court in Abuja. This order resulted from the suspension of the party’s National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole.

Mr. Giadom assumed leadership of the party and dismissed the party’s announcement of former Oyo governor, Abiola Ajimobi as acting chairman.

Justice Samiru Umar Bature extended the order stating that Giadom can act as APC’s National Chairman unhindered “unless otherwise decided by the National Executive Committee of the 4th defendant (APC).”

The motion also requested that Mustapha Salihu, who claims to be the APC’s National Vice Chairman (North East), can act as the party’s Secretary. Oshiomhole had previously obtained an order ex-parte to stop the execution of an earlier order which suspended him.

Following a ruling on Oshiomhole’s suspension by the court of appeal, a lawyer to the plaintiff returned to court for an extension of the earlier orders, which was granted.

The court order released on June 18, 2020, granted a request for Mustapha Sallhu to act as the National Secretary of the party pending the decision of a validly convened National Executive Committee or the hearing and determination of the motion on notice already filed.
