Conversion of Dalhatu Araf Hospital into Lafia University Teaching Hospital approved by Tinubu

Approval has been granted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the transition and repurposing of Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, located in Lafia, to be known as the Federal University of Lafia Teaching Hospital, Nasarawa.

According to a statement released by Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, this decision came in response to a request put forth by the Nasarawa State Government.

Ngelale elaborated that this transformation “will not only improve the education of students studying medical and related fields but will also enhance the healthcare services provided in the state.”

The statement highlighted Tinubu’s dedication to ensuring the social welfare and healthcare security of Nigerian citizens. It outlined his commitment to vigorously continuing the administration’s focus on investing in and improving the healthcare sector.

A report by NewsNow revealed that in November 2023, the Nasarawa State House of Assembly expressed discontent with the management of the hospital under the leadership of Dr. Hassan Ikrama.

The Assembly specifically raised concerns about the hospital management surpassing their approved budgetary limits.

This dissatisfaction was conveyed during a recent oversight visit to the hospital, which is owned by the state.
