Contracts for Smart Schools in Kebbi and Bayelsa States Revoked by FG

The Federal Government has announced the revocation of the contract for the construction of smart school infrastructure in Kebbi State, which has been re-awarded to a new contractor.

Additionally, the construction work for the smart school in Bayelsa State is also in the process of having its contract revoked and re-awarded to ensure that every state is included in the utilization of technology in education.

This information was disclosed by the Minister of State for Education, Dr. Yusuf Sununu, during a visit to the FCT Smart School in Karshi, alongside the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman.

Sununu also expressed disappointment in some states that have completed their smart schools but have failed to provide the required 75 teachers for training to operate the schools.

He urged other states to follow the example of the FCT administration, which is not only providing infrastructure but also ensuring a full staff complement for the smart school.

The smart school project aims to enhance teachers’ ICT capabilities and improve access to quality educational materials for both teachers and students.

Minister Mamman emphasized the shift towards technology-enhanced learning in Nigeria’s education system to stimulate students’ thinking and creativity.

The government’s plan includes establishing one smart school in each state, with 26 currently operational and construction ongoing for the rest.

He highlighted the involvement of teachers in developing educational content tailored to Nigerian values and the national curriculum.

Regarding security arrangements for the schools, Minister Mamman assured that elaborate measures have been put in place in collaboration with the community and security agencies.

Furthermore, over 11,000 Almajiris in the FCT will be enrolled in schools nationwide by September.
