Congratulations from Governor Mbah to Rangers for Emerging as NPFL Champions

With a game in hand, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State extends warm congratulations to Rangers International Football Club of Enugu for clinching the 2023/24 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title.

The congratulatory message comes on the heels of the team’s impressive 2-0 triumph over Bendel Insurance Football Club at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, this past Sunday.

A 33rd-minute strike by Kenechukwu Agu and a 65th-minute goal by Chidiebere Nwobodo secured the eighth league title for the squad under the guidance of Fidelis Ilechukwu, marking their second victory since 2016.

In a twist of fate, their nearest contenders Remo Stars and Enyimba Football Club faltered in their match-day 37 encounters, suffering 1-2 defeats each against Sunshine Stars and Sporting Lagos.

This enabled the Flying Antelopes to lead by 67 points with one game remaining.

During comments with journalists on Sunday, Mbah expressed delight over Rangers’ championship victory and their stellar performance on the field, reflecting the renowned excellence of Enugu State.

He affirmed that his administration would allocate more resources to foster sports advancement within the state.

“The government and people of Enugu State are elated. What transpired here tonight showcases the excellence Enugu is renowned for.

“I reminded the players before the game that they carried the legacy of legends on their shoulders, urging them to make their mark.

“I’m thrilled that they delivered.

“Our future is now. It integrates into our sports sector. We aspire to excel in all endeavors.

“We uphold an ethos of zero tolerance for subpar performance or mediocrity, and our commitment to excellence is unwavering,” Mbah articulated.

He pledged to sustain this drive, ensuring a robust reward system to motivate players to strive for success and bring home trophies.

Regarding sports infrastructure, he noted, “The prompt restoration of our pitch upon assuming office, enabling Rangers to host home games at The Cathedral, was a significant morale booster for the players.

“Yet, I assure the people of Enugu that this is just the beginning. Our aim is a comprehensive transformation of the sporting landscape in the state.

“This encompasses bolstering sports infrastructure, constructing top-tier facilities, and enhancing current ones to a world-class standard.”
