Confusion and Disbelief: US Returnee’s Mysterious Journey Back to Nigeria

Joseph Ibironke, a 68-year-old man from Ondo State, shared his bewildering experience of returning to Nigeria after spending nine years in the United Kingdom and 21 years in the United States. Unaware of how he ended up back in Nigeria, Ibironke, who hails from Igbara Oke, Ifedore Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State, disclosed in an exclusive interview with NewsNow that he was married and had four children, though he expressed distress at not knowing their whereabouts.

He attributed his predicament to a spiritual attack, recounting how his Texan wife claimed that one night, after they had slept following an intimate moment, he began barking like a dog and foaming at the mouth. Subsequently, he spent 14 months in a California hospital, where doctors failed to diagnose his condition. Ibironke shared that some Nigerians in the US suggested it was a spiritual attack and recommended treatment in Nigeria. Consequently, his family arranged for his return, but upon arrival, he was abandoned at the psychiatric hospital in Sabo Yaba by his elder brother and nephew.

His journey took him through a psychiatric hospital, Kirikiri Correctional Service, and the Redeemed Christian Church of God. Eventually, he found himself living under a bridge in Oshodi, where he received assistance from the police. Ibironke disclosed that he was taken to the Pakoto Prayer Mountain in Ifo, under the guidance of Prophet Ezekiel Oladeinde, where he experienced a partial recovery, realizing only then that he was back in Nigeria.
