Competition for Kano Pillars Coaching Job

One of the top contenders for the head coaching position at Kano Pillars is former Enyimba and Super Eagles assistant coach, Usman Abdallah. Reports from PUNCH Sports Extra reveal that preparations for the upcoming 2024/25 season, set to commence on August 31, are in full swing.

Abdallah, who previously served as an assistant coach at Kano Pillars, was recently interviewed as part of the selection process to replace the departing Paul Offor.

The appointment of Offor, a former Sporting Lagos coach, was short-lived as both parties mutually agreed to part ways following changes in the club’s management.

Club chairman, Ali Umar, explained that Offor’s contract was terminated due to the coach being hired under the previous management, which was later dissolved by the Kano State Government.

In their quest to find a new coach swiftly, the new management conducted interviews with Abdallah, former coach Ibrahim Musa, and ex-player turned assistant coach Ahmed Garba Yaro Yaro, among other candidates.

According to a statement by the club’s media team, an announcement regarding the appointment of a new coach for Kano Pillars is imminent.

The statement mentioned that apart from the physical interviews, the management board is carefully reviewing the CVs of other applicants who couldn’t attend in person.

“The board is dedicated to conducting a comprehensive evaluation to ensure the selection of a highly qualified technical adviser capable of providing expertise and leadership to the club,” read the statement.

A new technical adviser is expected to be named shortly by the management board, marking a significant development in gearing up the team for a successful season ahead.

Having previously clinched three consecutive NPFL titles from 2012 to 2014, Kano Pillars made a return to the top flight last season, finishing 11th in the standings.

As they gear up for the upcoming 2024/25 season, the team is currently in Enugu participating in the Coal City pre-season tournament.
