Competition for 19 Oil Blocks Heats Up in Nigeria


Both Nigerian indigenous firms and international oil companies are vying for a total of twelve onshore and seven deep offshore oil blocks in Nigeria.

During the ongoing Offshore Technology Conference, OTC 2024, in the United States of America, Engr Gbenga Komolafe, the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, NUPRC, revealed the keen interest of potential bidders.

Highlighting the government’s participation in OTC 2024, Komolafe emphasized the aim to attract investors to the abundant opportunities within Nigeria’s oil sector.

He stated, “Our objective at the OTC is to use one of the world’s largest oil and gas events to demonstrate the immense hydrocarbon potential and investment prospects in Nigeria. We also aim to encourage financially and technically capable players in the deep offshore sector to join the Nigerian 2024 licensing round for a successful outcome.”

It is worth noting that the Nigerian government recently announced twelve Petroleum Prospecting Leases (PPLs), which include blocks 300, 301, 3008, 3009, 2000, 2001, 267, 268, 269, 270, 271, and Petroleum Mining Lease (PML) 51. In addition, the Deep Offshore Blocks consist of PPLs 300, 301, 302, 303, 304, 305, and 306.
