Committee Inaugurated by Gov Alia to Save the Benue Child

The Save the Benue Child project’s state steering committee was inaugurated by Benue State Governor, Hyacient Alia, aimed at combating child trafficking within the state.

In Makurdi on Friday, the governor emphasized the significant challenges faced by the Benue child in recent years, highlighting the need for collective efforts to alter this narrative.

Through the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice and Public Order, Fidelis Mnyim, standing in for the governor, it was noted that the Benue child encounters a spectrum of issues such as inadequate education, healthcare, and nutrition.

The state government’s strategy involves partnering with various stakeholders via community outreach, engagements, and the delivery of support services through the project.

“Today, we recognize the harsh reality that many children in Benue endure challenges that no child should face.

“From limited educational and healthcare access to enduring the harsh consequences of crises, poverty, and neglect, these young lives are in jeopardy. However, we also see a significant opportunity to drive positive change and pave a path towards hope.

“The “Save the Benue Child” initiative serves not only as a response to these challenges but as a pledge to take action. The objective is to establish a comprehensive support system that addresses these children’s needs holistically.

“Our focus will include enhancing quality education accessibility, ensuring healthcare and nutrition, identifying and rescuing child victims of human trafficking, exploitation, sexual abuse, and delivering support services to vulnerable rescued children,” he affirmed.
