Commissioner: 2024 budget to bring relief to Zamfara from economic challenges

In Sokoto, during the International Youth Day celebration, Zamfara State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Alhaji Abdulmalik Abubakar Gajam, unveiled that the focus of the 2024 budget is to rescue the state from its economic predicaments.

Chairing the State Economic Planning Board, Gajam highlighted that past administrations in the State neglected agricultural policies, health, and education among other vital sectors of the economy.

Prior to Governor Dauda Lawal’s assumption of office in 2023, the State grappled with the absence of a strong fiscal policy and essential governance documents.

Gajam expressed concern over the lack of a clear economic roadmap to tackle the State’s economic and social issues, attributing this deficiency to past administrations.

He accused former administrations of overspending beyond their income from the federation account and internally generated revenues.

He criticized the past administrations for neglecting agriculture, health, education, and other vital sectors, allocating more resources to recurring expenses.
