Commencement of Training for New Police Constables Set for August 10

The forthcoming training for newly recruited constables is scheduled to begin on August 10, according to the Police Service Commission.

During the tenure of the former chairman, Solomon Arase, the PSC enlisted 10,000 constables into the Nigeria Police force.

However, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, rejected the recruits due to alleged corruption in the recruitment process.

The police alleged that some eligible candidates were replaced by unqualified individuals, an accusation that the PSC refuted.

Despite this, the PSC has affirmed that the recruitment process will proceed as planned.

In a statement released on Monday, the Head of Press and Public Relations at the PSC, Ikechukwu Ani, encouraged successful applicants to visit the recruitment website for further instructions.

Ani announced, “The Police Recruitment Board has confirmed August 10, 2024, as the date for commencing training for successful candidates of the 2022 Constable Recruitment exercise.”

“All candidates are required to verify their status by logging into the recruitment website to access additional information regarding the training program.

Specialized candidates are advised to report for training two months after the General Duty recruits. Details regarding the dates and locations for their specialized training will be communicated in due course.

“The Police Service Commission appreciates the patience and cooperation of the applicants during the recruitment process to ensure inclusivity and overall acceptance of the exercise.”

Furthermore, Ani emphasized that recruitment would continue to be based on merit according to the commission’s standards.

He emphasized, “The commission reiterates its commitment to ensuring that recruitment in the Nigeria Police Force upholds meritocracy and adheres to the Federal Character principles.”

“Successful candidates are urged to see this as a patriotic duty to serve their nation and the commission will supervise their training to ensure they are equipped to contribute to addressing the security challenges in the country.”
