Collaboration between Ogun and FRSC to Improve Road Tax Compliance

The partnership named “Operation Show Me Your Driver Licence” has been launched by the Federal Road Safety Corps in Ogun State in collaboration with the state Internal Revenue Service.

During a meeting with the Executive Chairman of OGIRS, Mr. Olugbenga Olaleye, the Sector Commander of FRSC in the state, Mr. Akinwunmi Fasakin, revealed this initiative.

Mr. Fasakin praised OGIRS for their ongoing cooperation with the Corps and highlighted the issue of some vehicle owners not having a valid driver’s license, leading to reduced road tax collections.

A forthcoming enforcement operation called ‘Operation Show Me Your Driver’s Licence’ will be launched by the Command to compel drivers to obtain a driver’s license through OGIRS, with a commitment to address any existing license backlog.

In response, Olaleye expressed OGIRS’ readiness to collaborate with the Corps in enforcing road check policies relating to driver and vehicle licenses to ensure that appropriate fees are paid to the government.

He emphasized that the enforcement plan aims to guarantee that all vehicle owners hold a valid driver’s license, among other objectives.

Additionally, the agency has implemented various compliance measures, including radio and television programs, to raise awareness among the public regarding timely tax payments.

Olaleye urged the Command to address delays in the issuance of driver’s licenses, noting the need for a cohesive solution to this issue.

He emphasized that the joint enforcement strategy will enhance revenue generation for national development, rather than targeting individuals unfairly.

In her comments, the OGIRS Director for Other Taxes, Mrs. Oluyomi Dawodu, expressed gratitude for the visit and requested an increased production of number plates for seamless distribution to vehicle owners at the point of purchase.
