Collaboration between Kwara Government, EFCC, and DSS to Combat Illegal Mining

Dr Afeez Abolore Alabi, the Kwara State Commissioner for Solid Minerals Development, has urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Department of State Services (DSS) to work together effectively in addressing the issue of illegal mining within the state.

This call was made during the commissioner’s recent visits to the headquarters of these security agencies in Ilorin, the state capital.

The importance of these visits stems from the prevalent activities of illegal miners in the state, which have raised concerns regarding the detrimental impact on the state’s revenue.

Expressing his worries, the commissioner highlighted the urgent need to tackle illegal mining to safeguard the state’s financial interests.

In response to these concerns, Harry Erin, the Zonal Director of the EFCC in the state, welcomed the commissioner’s visit and pledged to cooperate closely with the ministry to eradicate illegal mining activities.

Erin emphasized the necessity for active involvement and support from all stakeholders to mitigate revenue losses experienced by the government.

Likewise, the State Director of the DSS emphasized the abundance of high-quality mineral resources in Kwara State that hold significant revenue potential for the government.

He encouraged the state government to develop effective strategies and initiatives aimed at empowering the youth, stating, “Engaging young people in productive endeavors is crucial for the betterment of our society.”
