Collaboration between Dettol and Lagos State Office of SDG to Educate 50,000 School Children on Handwashing

Nigeria’s primary hygiene brand Dettol, has partnered with the Lagos State Government through the Office of Sustainable Development Goals and Investment, to educate primary school children within the State about protecting themselves from infectious diseases, such as Coronavirus and Lassa Fever, as part of its Clean Naija Initiative.

 

The World Health Organization emphasizes the importance of good hygiene in preventing infectious diseases and promoting better health. Dettol is committed to spreading the message of good hygiene practices among Nigerians, which has led to various initiatives, programs, and social investment activities across the country.

 

Recently, the hygiene education team conducted a session at St Mary’s Convent school in Lagos Island, Lagos, where over 500 school pupils were taught how to prevent the transmission of respiratory illnesses and the importance of proper hand hygiene.

General Manager, RB West Africa, Mr. Dayanand Sriram, emphasized the importance of hand washing in preventing illnesses, especially in the current context of the Coronavirus. He mentioned that RB aims to reach 50,000 children in 20 local government areas of the state through the partnership with the Lagos State Government.

 

The Special Adviser for Sustainable Development Goals, Lagos State Government, Mrs. Solape Hammond, highlighted the focus on health and environment pillars in 2020 and the significance of adopting hygiene practices, especially in the wake of the Coronavirus outbreak.

Dettol’s School Hygiene Programme uses teaching aids and enjoyable activities to educate children on good hygiene practices and ways to protect themselves against germs. The brand has successfully educated over 5 million children and teachers through this program over the past 7 years.

 

As part of its commitment to promoting healthy hygiene practices in 2020, Dettol is collaborating with more public sector organizations to deliver hygiene education and drive hygiene behavior change in Nigeria.
