Close call as bus collides with truck in Lagos

Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) stated that two individuals narrowly escaped a fatal outcome on Tuesday as a commercial bus collided with a slow-moving articulated vehicle.

Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, shared with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos that the two victims sustained injuries of varying severity.

The incident occurred at Ojota, Maryland, Lagos around 4.45 a.m. due to excessive speed resulting in a loss of control.

The rescue operation was carried out by the agency’s Tiger Response Team from the command and control center in Alausa, Ikeja.

Upon arrival at the scene, they observed that a commercial bus with registration number APP 209XZ had collided with an articulated vehicle registered as T4845LA.

The two trapped victims inside the bus were successfully rescued and promptly taken to the hospital for medical care due to their injuries.

An investigation revealed that the accident occurred because of the high speed at which the commercial bus was traveling, leading it to collide with the slowly moving truck from behind,” he explained.

The incident resulted in traffic congestion on the highway but was swiftly resolved, allowing normal vehicular activities to resume before peak traffic hours.

Oke-Osanyintolu advised drivers to adhere to traffic laws, drive cautiously, and prioritize safety to prevent accidents that could result in the loss of lives and property.
