Claims that Akpabio would Eat While Others Protest are False, says Aide

Debunking allegations that Senate President Godswill Akpabio remarked he would be dining while others protest, Kenny Okolugbo, Consultant Communications and Strategy to the Senate President, clarified that Akpabio never made such statements.

In a statement seen on Thursday, Okolugbo emphasized that Akpabio was simply quoting the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, who highlighted the benefits received by Niger Delta youths under their leadership.

During his visit to the NDDC-sponsored youth stakeholders summit in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Akpabio acknowledged the challenges faced by the Niger Delta region but noted the absence of protests amidst the difficulties.

As the highest-ranking government official from the region, Akpabio expressed empathy towards the people’s struggles, recognizing the prevailing hunger and economic hardships. He commended government initiatives to address these issues, such as the new minimum wage and the establishment of development commissions in the Northwest and Southeast.

An empowerment program announced by Akpabio aims to provide 10,000 youths with a monthly stipend of N50,000 to alleviate economic challenges.

Comparing the initiative to the pains before childbirth, Okolugbo urged patience and understanding from the Niger Delta populace towards President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Reportedly expressing disdain for the planned #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest, Akpabio referenced the MD’s statement and emphasized the Niger Delta’s lack of readiness for a regime change.

“We all feel the current impact, but it is temporary. MD, your words are appreciated. We are not seeking regime change; let us support this government,” Akpabio remarked.
