Claims by Simon Ekpa suggest Nigeria to cut diplomatic ties with Finland

An allegation from the Biafra Republic Government In-Exile led by Simon Ekpa suggests that Nigeria is planning to sever diplomatic relations with Finland.

Ekpa made these statements via his official X handle on Thursday.

This assertion follows recent comments from the Finnish government regarding legal proceedings involving Ekpa.

Elina Valtonen, Finland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, addressed the issue following a meeting involving Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, and the foreign ministers of Sweden, Finland, Iceland, with representatives from Norway and Denmark. She mentioned that Ekpa’s case is being handled according to Finland’s legal system, which strictly adheres to the rule of law.

The Nigerian Government has been making efforts to extradite Ekpa back to the country.

Responding to this, the Biafra activist, based in Finland, stated that the decision to sever ties comes as a result of unsuccessful attempts to extradite him.

According to him, “The Nigerian authorities have exhausted all their options and have resorted to closing the Finnish embassy in Abuja and ending relations with Finland.

He further added, “Finland would have a more promising future with the emerging state of Biafra compared to what Nigeria can offer.

He also claimed, “Norway shut down its embassy in Nigeria some time ago; their embassy now operates from Ghana. They faced no losses as the burden of verifying fake and forged documents was lifted from them.”

Ekpa recently raised concerns about a fifth alleged assassination attempt on him in Finland.
