Church robbery by recent convert

Authorities are on a manhunt for David Wanyonyi Simiyu, who has been accused of stealing two video cameras and their accessories from a church in Nairobi, Kenya.

Simiyu, who had recently experienced a spiritual awakening at the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA) Zimmerman Parish, allegedly committed the theft on Sunday, March 6, 2022.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) disclosed that Simiyu pilfered the media equipment while the congregation was engaged in prayers and then sold the items to unscrupulous dealers.

The statement from DCI confirmed the recovery of the stolen cameras, valued at nearly Sh1Million, and detailed the timeline of events leading to their discovery.

Subsequent investigations revealed that Simiyu, a recent convert from Trans-Nzoia county, had absconded with the equipment and sold it at Nairobi’s Imenti business hub.

Forensic analysis and surveillance by the DCI mobile laboratory in Nairobi’s Central Business district aided in the identification and recovery of the stolen cameras from three individuals involved in trading stolen electronic goods.

The apprehended individuals are currently detained at Muthaiga police station while efforts to locate the mastermind, David Simiyu, continue.

Despite the theft, the clergy at PCEA Zimmerman have chosen to extend forgiveness to Simiyu and welcome him back into the congregation.
