Chief Edwin Clark Writes Letter to IGP Egbetokun About Rivers Crisis

In a letter addressed to the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, Chief Edwin Clark, former Federal Commissioner for Information and South-South Leader, highlighted the urgent need to intervene in the ongoing crisis in Rivers State. Clark emphasized the potential threat of anarchy and imminent danger if the situation is not swiftly addressed.

The crisis in Rivers State, according to Clark, originated from the impeachment threat on Governor Siminalayi Fubara by the State Assembly led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule, who is reportedly loyal to Nyesom Wike, the Minister of Federal Capital Territory.

Expressing concern over the escalating political crisis, Clark emphasized the importance of immediate action to prevent the crisis from escalating further and risking destabilization of the entire country. He emphasized the need for the IGP to step in and mediate the political turmoil in Rivers State involving Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Minister Nyesom Wike, and the State House of Assembly.

Clark, speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, urged the IGP to address the threat on Governor Fubara by the State Assembly members loyal to Nyesom Wike. He stressed the significance of preventing anarchy by restraining the Assembly members from acting unlawfully.

Referring to the constitutional provisions, Clark highlighted that the lawmakers who defected to the All Progressives Congress have ceased to be members of the State Assembly. He called on the IGP to curb the provocative actions of the Assembly members, which could ignite tension and disrupt peace in Rivers State.

Warning about the potential consequences of the crisis, Clark urged immediate action from the IGP to uphold the sanctity of the country’s constitution. He underscored that the former Assembly members must not be allowed to continue posing as lawmakers after forfeiting their seats in accordance with the constitution.

In a portion of his letter to the IGP, Clark emphasized his commitment to supporting the government and maintaining peace, stability, and unity in the country. He condemned any actions that could threaten the nation’s peace and unity, emphasizing the collective responsibility to safeguard the nation’s well-being.
