Confirmation has arrived from Chelsea regarding the loan deal for Nigerian-born midfielder, Ashanti Akpan, who is set to spend the upcoming season (2024/2025) at Birmingham City in the Women’s Championship.
On Thursday, the Premier League West London club released a statement on their website unveiling this development.
In the midst of last season, the 18-year-old inked her first professional contract with Chelsea.
Akpan marked her senior team debut for Chelsea in March 2023, entering the field as a substitute during a 3-1 FA Cup quarter-final match.
Expressing their support, Chelsea’s statement conveyed, “Everyone at Chelsea would like to wish Ashanti every success during her time with Birmingham City.”
Interestingly, Akpan, born in Warsaw, is of Polish descent from her mother’s side and Nigerian descent from her father’s.
