Chelsea Seek Deal For Brighton Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez

Reports indicate that Chelsea are advancing in their efforts to acquire Brighton shot-stopper, Robert Sanchez, who is no longer desired by the Seagulls.

The Blues are currently in the market for a fresh goalkeeper following the departure of Edouard Mendy, leaving Marcus Bettinelli as the primary competition for Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The Spaniard, who presently occupies the starting role at Stamford Bridge, has been largely unconvincing during his time in west London. Consequently, new manager Mauricio Pochettino may not only seek competition for Kepa but also a replacement.

Sanchez could potentially fulfill that role, as per the Daily Mail, which reports progress towards a deal for the Spanish international to join Chelsea.

Previously the first-choice goalkeeper for the Seagulls, the 25-year-old has fallen down the pecking order under Roberto De Zerbi. He lost his position to Jason Steele last season and now finds himself behind summer signing Bart Verbruggen, who arrived from Anderlecht.

The Mail stated earlier this month that Brighton would be seeking a fee of approximately £30m for Sanchez. However, it may be challenging to achieve this valuation given his clear demotion from the first team.

Sanchez is currently so far removed from De Zerbi’s plans that he is training with the Under-18 side, suggesting an imminent departure is inevitable.

Chelsea’s goalkeeping coach, Ben Roberts, formerly of Brighton, is believed to be advocating for Sanchez’s transfer as he holds a high regard for the goalkeeper’s abilities.

The Blues continued their preparations for the upcoming season with a 2-0 victory over Fulham on Sunday in Maryland. Goals were scored by Thiago Silva and Christopher Nkunku.
