CBN Governor and Cardoso to be summoned by Senate over N30 trillion Ways and Means loan

A Senate Ad-hoc Committee is planning to invite the Central Bank of Nigeria’s governor, Yemi Cardoso, regarding the N30 trillion Ways and Means loans.

The committee is investigating the loan extended to the Federal Government and has identified 13 violations in the loan acquisition process.

During a meeting at the National Assembly on Tuesday, Senator Isah Jibrin (Kogi East), the Committee Chairman, along with other members, engaged with CBN officials where these discrepancies were unveiled.

Bala Bello led the team of CBN officials present at the meeting.

The ad-hoc committee is scrutinizing the allocation and utilization of the N30 trillion Ways and Means loan that was secured during the tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari from the CBN.

Jibrin alleged that the ex-governor of the CBN, Godwin Emefiele, unilaterally approved billions of naira across various phases of the loan, bypassing the required protocols.

The Kogi legislator mentioned that Emefiele illicitly endorsed billions of naira in 13 separate documents.
