Captain Messi Picks Out Argentina’s Rising Star at Copa America

Valentin Carboni has been earmarked by Lionel Messi as one of the potential future stars of Argentina, with the young midfielder winning praise for his “exceptional quality.”

Having made his senior debut for Argentina in a 3-1 victory over Costa Rica back in March, Carboni was handed his first start for the national team in a recent clash against Guatemala.

The 19-year-old delivered an impressive performance, particularly shining on the right wing.

Having joined Inter in 2020, Carboni also completed a successful loan stint at Serie A outfit Monza.

He is now in contention for a spot in Argentina’s final Copa America squad, as the current World Cup champions prepare to kick off their Group A campaign against Canada on June 21.

Speaking to TyC Sports, Messi expressed his admiration for Carboni’s potential, stating, “He [Carboni] possesses an outstanding present and even better future. We must capitalize on that, just like many other talented youngsters who bring vigor.”

Reflecting on Carboni’s progress, Messi added, “Since our arrival in the United States, he has been training with us. We had noted his abilities in the Under-20 setup, but since then, he has made significant improvements. He has evolved into a different player, well-prepared and boasting exceptional quality.”
