The Canadian Senate praises Burna Boy and Nollywood

Recently, the Canadian Senate applauded Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Burna Boy and the Nollywood film industry.

The Senate of the North American country recognized the significant growth and international reach of Nigerian music and movies.

During the discussion, Marcel Lebleu, Director General of the West and Central African Bureau at Global Affairs Canada, specifically highlighted Burna Boy’s achievements as a touring artist.

He commended the Grammy-winning artist for his sold-out shows at the iconic Bell Centre in Montreal, where he became the first African artist to achieve this feat.

Lebleu mentioned, “Have you heard of Burna Boy? He’s an amazing Afrobeats singer. He recently performed in Montreal and sold out The Bell Centre two times, drawing in about 35,000 fans.”

He also mentioned Burna Boy’s performance in Toronto and emphasized the importance of the cultural industry, citing Nollywood as an example.

Senator Peter Boehm, who chairs the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, shared, “I was listening to Burna Boy the other night.”

In addition, Boehm confirmed his admiration for Burna Boy, stating on his verified social media account, “@burnaboy’s album ‘Twice as Tall’ (2020) has been a favorite on my playlist recently.”
