Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in Self-isolation Following Wife’s Flu-like Symptoms After UK Trip

Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, is currently in self-isolation as his wife returned from London with symptoms resembling flu.

 

An official statement released on Thursday morning revealed that Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, 44, who recently came back from the United Kingdom, started showing mild flu-like symptoms, including a low fever, on Wednesday night.

 

Mrs. Trudeau is presently self-isolating at the Prime Minister’s residence in Ottawa while awaiting the results of her test. Although the Prime Minister is not exhibiting any symptoms, he is also in self-isolation, opting to work from home as a precaution.

Mrs. Trudeau had traveled to the United Kingdom to attend the WE Day UK Charity event and concert, which took place in London on Tuesday, March 3. Notable personalities at the event included Idris Elba, Jamie Oliver, Lewis Hamilton, and former Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard, among others.

 

On Wednesday, the Prime Minister announced that Canada has committed C$1bn to combat the coronavirus outbreak.

 

“We are already prepared to do more if need be,” Trudeau said. “We’ll be there to support businesses. We will be there to support Canadians through this difficult time.”

 

As of now, Canada has reported 93 confirmed cases and one fatality due to the virus.
