Call for Calm as Aviation Workers Threaten Strike: Keyamo

In response to the planned industrial action by workers’ unions in the aviation ministry, Minister Festus Keyamo has urged them to halt the strike. The announcement of strike and nationwide protests, scheduled to start on August 21, 2024, was made by aviation workers across the country.

The decision, documented in a letter labeled “Save Aviation From Collapse” dated August 14, 2024, and shared with reporters in Abuja, was provoked by the consistent deduction of 50 percent from the internally generated revenue of critical aviation agencies.

In a statement personally endorsed by Keyamo and published on his official X handle on Friday, he urged the workers to maintain tranquility and uphold industrial harmony while the government actively seeks an amicable resolution to the issue.

Expressing gratitude for the workers’ patience and comprehension, the Minister urged them to stay dedicated to ensuring a favorable work atmosphere for all.

He acknowledged the importance of the raised concerns and the essential role played by the aviation workforce in guaranteeing the industry’s safety, efficiency, and seamless operation.

Keyamo asserted, “The Ministry is focused on tackling these obstacles in a way that guarantees the continuous viability and durability of the sector, all while upholding the highest service delivery standards.”

Additionally, the Minister reassured the workers’ unions and other ministry stakeholders that President Bola Tinubu is deeply invested in enhancing the aviation sector. He pledged to give their demands careful consideration to achieve a permanent solution that balances the government’s fiscal requirements with the operational needs of the aviation agencies.
