Call for Accountability: Niger State’s PDP Urges Gov Bago to Disclose State’s Share of N570b and N1.3tr

In a recent development, the Niger State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is demanding transparency from Governor Mohammed Umar Bago regarding the state’s allocation from the N570 billion and N1.3 trillion disbursed to the 36 states by the Federal Government.

Expressing concerns about accountability in governance, the party released a statement through its State Vice Chairman and Zonal Chairman, Niger North, Zone ‘C of the PDP – Yahaya Abdullahi Ability, in Minna.

Allegations were made citing examples like the Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, who claimed that his state received approximately N57 billion out of the federal funds distributed to the states.

With a direct question posed to Gov. Umar Mohammed Bago, the statement questioned the whereabouts of Niger State’s share of the N1.3 trillion released to the states.

Emphasizing the need for transparency, the statement urged Gov. Bago to provide a detailed account of the funds allocated to Niger State, considering the prevalent issues of poverty, unemployment, infrastructural decay, and insecurity in the state.

Furthermore, the statement highlighted the perceived lack of progress under the current administration despite the substantial federal allocations received consistently.

As the 2027 elections draw near, calls were made for the people of Niger State to voice their opinions and hold the ruling APC government accountable for their performance.

Responding to the allegations, the Special Adviser on Print Media to Governor Bago, Aisha Wakaso, refuted the claims, reaffirming the administration’s dedication to transparent and efficient use of public funds.

The governor’s aide highlighted the administration’s efforts in implementing various developmental projects aimed at enhancing the quality of life for all citizens within the state over the past year.
