Buhari can’t intervene in increased electricity charges – Femi Adesina

The intervention of President Muhammadu Buhari in the decision of the National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to increase electricity charges is not feasible, according to Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser to the President on media and publicity. Adesina explained that the authority to increase electricity tariffs lies with the Ministry of Power and NERC, and the President’s involvement would only be sought as a last resort. He emphasized that it is premature for President Buhari to engage in the matter. Adesina made these remarks during an appearance on the Politics Today program on Channels Television on January 6. He reiterated the ministry’s stance that any tariff adjustments will only come into effect from April and suggested leaving the issue as it stands for now. He emphasized the need for the President to be consulted only as a final option, asserting that the government will prioritize safeguarding the interests of the public despite any new policies.
