Bricklayer in Akwa Ibom arrested for multiple alleged rapes of his 13-year-old daughter

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command detained Mr. Godwin Jeremiah, a bricklayer from Ikot Udota Community in Eket local government area for reportedly sexually assaulting his 13-year-old daughter, Miss Emem Godwin Jeremiah.

The arrest was made by Mr. Sunday Digha, the DPO of Eket Police Division, with the assistance of Mrs. Bright Archibong, the wife of the Eket Local Government Chairman, and Barr. Emem, the FIDA Chairman in Akwa Ibom State.

Recalling her experience, the JSS 1 student, who was in tears, disclosed that her father had forced sexual intercourse on her, usually at night, on a daily basis.

“My father sexually abused me by force starting from January 2020, and this occurred almost every day, regardless of my resistance due to the pain and injuries I suffered from the act. At first, I reported the incident to my stepmother, who confronted my father, but she was beaten, and as a result, she fled from my father’s house,” she narrated.

“When the situation became unbearable for me, I went to the police, which led to his initial arrest. However, due to the intervention of my aunt, who did not believe my story, he was released on bail. After he was released from police custody, I had no choice but to return to the house and live with my father. The situation deteriorated, becoming the darkest moment in my life. At this point, my father did not allow me to sleep and forcefully raped me throughout the night, and this continued daily. Since there was no one to help, I decided to escape from my father’s house to an unknown place, where I encountered the caring Mrs. Bright Archibong, who stepped up to fight on my behalf.”
