After experiencing persistent Coronavirus symptoms, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been admitted to the hospital. The 55-year-old politician had previously shared his positive test result for COVID-19 and had been self-isolating at his residence in Downing Street for seven days.
A statement from his office today revealed that his doctor advised his admission. The decision was made as a precaution due to his ongoing symptoms, but it was not an emergency.
Reports indicate that Johnson is receiving care at an NHS hospital in London and will remain there for as long as necessary.
“On the advice of his doctor, the Prime Minister has tonight been admitted to hospital for tests. This is a precautionary step, as the Prime Minister continues to have persistent symptoms of coronavirus 10 days after testing positive for the virus,” the statement read.
Johnson’s case makes him the most high-profile world leader to contract the virus. His pregnant partner, Carrie Symonds, also revealed that she had been ill with symptoms for a week but is now on the path to recovery.
