Breaking News: Two Key Political Figures in Ebonyi State Make a Political Move

Chief Anayo Edwin Nwonu, a former member of the House of Representatives from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State, and Chikodiri Nomeh, a current lawmaker in the state House of Assembly, have officially switched their allegiance to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

This development comes shortly after the defection of former federal lawmakers Chief Lazarus Ogbee, Peter Edeh, and Livinus Makwe, along with their supporters, to the APC.

Nwonu previously represented the Ezza North and Ishielu federal constituency, while Nomeh currently holds office as the representative of the Ezza North West constituency in the state House of Assembly.

They made their move to the APC in a ceremony held at Ebiaji, the headquarters of Ezza North Local Government, organized by the state Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Engr. Jude Okpor.

Having served in the federal House from 2015 to 2023 and having contested in the recent governorship primary under the PDP without success, Nwonu made a strategic shift to APGA in an attempt to secure a third term in the National Assembly. However, he lost the APGA ticket to Joseph Nwobashi.

Their defection was formally acknowledged by the state chairman of the APC, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, and other prominent figures from the Ezza North Local Government Area and Ebonyi Central Zone.

Describing Nwonu as a seasoned political veteran in the zone, Chief Lazarus Ogbee, who previously represented the Ezza South/Ikwo federal constituency, urged the new APC members to uphold the party’s values while not being misled by existing members.

Highlighting the importance of unity for the progress of the state, Ogbee emphasized the need to halt any divisive actions within Ebonyi Central Zone to foster peace and growth.

Stressing the significance of supporting Governor Francis Nwifuru, Nwonu and Nomeh shared that they made the transition to the APC due to the positive impact of the governor’s policies on the welfare of the people.
