The culprits, who share the same lineage and hail from Isiekenesi, Ideato LGA of Imo State, were apprehended in their hometown after fleeing from the scene of the crime in Abuja.

The police took action upon receiving a report from Chinedu Ogbonnaya, who disclosed that his 55-year-old mother, Mrs. Janet Nnenna Ogbonnaya, a native of Ozuitem in Bende LGA of Abia State, had been abducted, and a ransom of 5 million naira was demanded for her safe return.

A meticulous investigation by law enforcement led to the arrest of the threesome, who, during interrogation, confessed to murdering and burying the victim.

Further probe revealed that the victim, a widow, had been enticed by Johnson Emmanuel, the prime suspect and her Facebook acquaintance, to visit him in Gwagwalada. Upon her arrival, he drugged her with yoghurt, leading to her demise. Johnson subsequently buried her remains in a septic tank, then contacted her family using her phone to demand the ransom.

Today, June 4th, the suspects led investigators and pathologists to a property in Wumba District, Lokogoma, Abuja, where the victim’s decomposed body was unearthed from a septic tank. The remains were then transported to the University Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada, Abuja, for forensic analysis.

Additionally, the Police recovered a Toyota Highlander Jeep owned by the deceased from a mechanic workshop in Apo. The vehicle had been repainted, documents falsified, and the ownership deceitfully transferred to one of the masterminds, Johnson Emmanuel.

An inquiry also unveiled that the residence where the heinous act occurred originally belonged to one of the suspects but was swiftly sold to a third party, presumably to eliminate evidence.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP M.A Adamu, lauded the operatives for their exceptional work and guaranteed that perpetrators of all crimes will be identified and penalized. He urged citizens to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities in their vicinity to the nearest police station.
