Borussia Dortmund Breaks Record with €509.1m in Revenue

In a historic announcement, Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund revealed that they had achieved a remarkable milestone by generating €509.1 million (£442 million) in revenue last season, marking the highest single-year turnover in the club’s history.

This impressive figure, excluding transfer fees, represents a significant 24% increase from the previous season.

Despite finishing fifth in the Bundesliga, Dortmund’s unexpected journey to the Champions League final, where they faced a 2-0 defeat against Real Madrid, played a pivotal role in driving the club’s record revenue. Additionally, boosted TV revenue and merchandising sales also contributed to this growth.

Speaking about this achievement, club boss Hans-Joachim Watzke expressed his satisfaction, stating, “This is my 20th annual press conference, and it’s certainly one of the most fulfilling.”

The actual revenue is likely higher as Dortmund made a significant sale, transferring English midfielder Jude Bellingham to Real Madrid for €103 million during the reporting period.

Dortmund, the sole German club listed on the country’s stock market, revealed their plan to distribute a dividend of six cents per share in response to these record-breaking results.

Like all German football clubs, Dortmund must adhere to the 50+1 rule, which ensures member control and restricts external investments or ownership.
