Bola Tinubu Calls for Monitoring of Food Warehouses to Curb Hoarding and Profiteering

Following a meeting with state governors and security agencies at the State House, President Bola Tinubu has instructed the Department of State Services (DSS), the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to monitor warehouses hoarding food items across the country.

He emphasized the need to prevent hoarding and profiteering of food items and urged state governors to collaborate with the Federal Government to boost local food production.

In addition, President Tinubu cautioned against resorting to food importation as a solution to the current food shortage being experienced in the country. He encouraged governors to follow the example of Kano State in dealing with hoarding of food for profiteering by commodities merchants.

Moreover, he stressed the importance of livestock development, particularly in poultry and fishing products, and urged governors to prioritize clearing all outstanding salary arrears, worker gratuities, and pension payments to inject money into the hands of the people.
