Boko Haram infiltrates August protest in Borno, killing 4 and injuring many

During the recent nationwide protest in Maiduguri, the Borno State Police Command reported that Boko Haram insurgents had infiltrated the protesters along Baga Road, resulting in the deaths of four individuals and injuries to 34 others.

Yusuf Lawal, the State’s Police Commissioner, shared this information in a situation report provided to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri.

In response, the police promptly deployed the Explosive Ordnance Device (EOD) Base 13 to secure the area around a filling station.

The injured individuals and deceased were later taken to Specialist Hospital, Maiduguri for medical treatment and autopsies.

Lawal mentioned that amidst the chaos, a group of minors, mainly almajiris aged between 9 and 15, took control of the Maiduguri-Kano road, causing vandalism to public property.

Despite the police’s efforts to persuade them, the crowd became unruly, breaking police barriers, throwing stones at officers, and moving towards the city center.
