Bode George urges Tinubu to reveal the truth about fuel subsidy to Nigerians

President Bola Tinubu has been called upon by Bode George, a prominent member of the People Democratic Party, to be transparent with the Nigerian people regarding the issue of fuel subsidy.

As a former deputy national chairman of PDP, George emphasized that it is the right of Nigerians to know whether the Tinubu administration is clandestinely continuing to pay fuel subsidies or not.

Speculations have been circulating about the government’s reimplementation of fuel subsidies, with former governors Isa Yuguda of Bauchi and Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna accusing the government of now spending more on subsidies than in the past.

It was disclosed by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, that Nigeria currently expends $600 million monthly on fuel imports.

During an appearance on the Arise Tv Morning Show on Friday, George expressed disappointment at the lack of transparency exhibited by the Federal government regarding fuel subsidy payments.

“I’m deeply concerned about the events in this particular sector. On one hand, we hear that the subsidy still exists, while on the other hand, there are claims that it does not. Who is speaking the truth? It is imperative that the truth be revealed, as it is our basic right. If the public is aware of the reality, they will lend their support for your success,” George emphasized.

“The NNPCL is a national asset, owned by all Nigerians. We demand transparency regarding its operations. Although not directly involved in its activities, I possess adequate knowledge to evaluate differing viewpoints and decide whether to endorse government policies or operations. If discrepancies are evident in the information presented to us, we will not hesitate to voice our concerns,” George stated.
