Bobrisky Set to be Released on August 5

Bobrisky, the controversial cross-dresser also known as Idris Okuneye, will regain his freedom from the Kirikiri Correctional Centre on August 5, 2024. He has been incarcerated for six months for the offense of abusing the naira by spraying it at parties.

An anonymous source from the prison confirmed this information to our correspondent, and Bobrisky’s lawyer, Ayo Olumofin, also verified the release date on Tuesday.

Olumofin stated, “Yes, it’s about that time for him to be released. There is nothing specific that would be done during his release. I might not go. I’m engaged outside Lagos. Maybe other lawyers will go.”

Bobrisky’s imprisonment began on April 12, 2024, with a sentence of six months without the option of a fine from Justice Abimbola Awogboro, who has since been elevated to the Court of Appeal.

Despite filing an appeal, Bobrisky’s case is unlikely to be heard before his release date on August 5.

The charges against Bobrisky included multiple instances of tampering with naira bills at various events, as outlined by the EFCC prosecution counsel, Suleiman Suleiman.

In court, Bobrisky admitted his guilt to the charges presented, leading to his conviction by Justice Awogboro.

During the proceedings, Bobrisky expressed his regret for his actions, pledging to utilize his platform to educate his followers about the legalities surrounding the abuse of currency.
