Billy Porter’s Unique Inspiration for His Oscars Look (Photos)

At the 92nd Annual Academy Awards, American actor Billy Porter, known for defying gender norms on the red carpet, made a bold fashion statement.

The openly gay 50-year-old actor donned a sleeveless, high-neck, gold-foil-feathered bodice and billowing graphic skirt that drew inspiration from Kensington Palace.

He completed the look with towering gold metallic strappy boots adorned with gold embellishments by Jimmy Choo.

‘The Oscars are a royal event, so naturally we took inspiration from Kensington Palace. I’m officially a Queen with a KW,’ Porter wrote on Instagram.

Porter’s stylist, Sam Ratelle, who visited Kensington Palace in 2019, remarked, “I thought, ‘The Oscars are kind of a royal event.'” He then reached out to British designer Giles Deacon, with whom he had recently befriended, to infuse the regal essence of Kensington Palace into a gown for Porter, whom Ratelle referred to as “a queen with a ‘kw’.”
