Benue State Prepares to Launch a Local Security Outfit

Announcing a significant development, Benue State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia revealed plans for the launch of a state-owned security outfit comprising ten thousand youths by the end of May.

The purpose of introducing this outfit is to support the existing security agencies in addressing the prevailing security issues within the state.

During the recent Stakeholders Meeting of the All Progressives Congress, APC, at Government House, Makurdi, Governor Alia made these remarks.

In recognition of the collective efforts towards ensuring security, Governor Alia expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the security agencies for their dedicated service in safeguarding both the nation and the state.

The establishment of this security outfit by the state is expected to enhance the safety of Benue communities, facilitating unimpeded access to farmlands for the local farmers.

As part of the preparations, the government is already in the process of acquiring Hilux vans and motorcycles to equip the security personnel, enabling them to navigate throughout the state effectively.

Addressing the stakeholders, Governor Alia highlighted that certain disruptive elements sought to invite unidentified gunmen into Benue to disrupt the peace, but the authorities successfully averted the threat and repelled the intruders.

Emphasizing the commitment to restoring normalcy and ensuring food security, Governor Alia stated the determination of the administration to eradicate these threats, specifically in areas like Kwande, Ukum, Logo, Gwer East, Gwer West, Guma, Apa, and Agatu.

Despite the prevailing challenges in these regions, the state government remains resolute in its efforts to enhance security and create a safer environment for all.
