Benue Judiciary Receives Car Gift from Alia Underlines Commitment to Support – State Attorney General

In a statement, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice and Public Order of Benue State, Hon. Barr. Fidelis Mnyim, highlighted that Governor Hyacinth Alia’s recent car gift to the judiciary signifies his ongoing dedication to supporting them since he assumed office.

Addressing criticism from Prof. Ernest Ojukwu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, through a tweet on May 7, 2024, Barr Mnyim defended the autonomy of the Benue State Judiciary, noting that Governor Alia’s donation of six (SUV) vehicles was a demonstration of goodwill.

The Governor’s decision to provide vehicles for the judiciary raised questions from Prof. Ojukwu regarding the utilization of allocated funds for such purchases within the judiciary.

However, the Attorney General clarified that Governor Alia’s gesture was an additional show of support, especially following the full financial autonomy he granted to the judiciary in February 2024. This autonomy covers all financial aspects, ensuring that the judiciary receives its due funds from various sources monthly.

According to Mnyim, the judiciary now has the financial capacity to procure vehicles independently since they receive allocated funds promptly each month.

The Attorney General emphasized that the Governor’s gesture reinforced his commitment to justice and the legal system, beyond the financial autonomy, aimed at inspiring excellence in service delivery within the judiciary.

Mnyim also highlighted Governor Alia’s broader initiatives to improve welfare and service delivery quality across different sectors, illustrating his dedication to fostering justice, equity, and progress in Benue State.
