Benue govt thanks development partners for empowering vulnerable persons

The Benue State government has extended its gratitude to development partners for their efforts in empowering vulnerable individuals in the state. Sir James Iorpuu, the Executive Secretary of Benue State Emergency Management Agency, commended the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other donor agencies for their consistent support in assisting Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) through the provision of essential relief items over the past seven years.

Iorpuu expressed his appreciation during a recent interaction with journalists in Makurdi, emphasizing the crucial role played by these organizations in addressing the escalating humanitarian crisis in the state. He specifically highlighted the contributions of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), which is currently conducting biometric verification of IDPs to accurately determine their numbers for effective planning.

Upon assuming office, Iorpuu was troubled by the lack of verifiable data on the IDP population in the state, prompting his dedicated efforts to rectify this issue. He stressed the importance of having accurate and updated information to facilitate better decision-making and resource allocation for the welfare of displaced persons.
